I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help. Psalms 121:1

Sunny Slopes A Place to Return To

Some time ago a young man in his teens roamed the land of what is now Sunny Slopes. He had a dream to own this land and preserve its beauty and uniqueness. His vision at that time included turning the land into an animal preserve. He began the quest of his dream with the purchase of land as it became available beginning in 1958 through the mid sixties.

Busy with family, church, and work responsibilities, he put his dream on hold until 1999 when he began to clear some of the land for a new home. In the past eight years he has worked very hard, much of the time by himself, to prepare the land for animals and visitors. He realized what a great gift he has been given and believes it is his responsibility to share what God has given him with others. In his words “…for unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required…” [Luke 12:48]

There are many fascinating stories about the history of the land including how the mountain got its name. One of those stories dates back to the Civil War when both Union and Confederate soldiers, who chose not to fight, took refuge on this mountain. Stories and legends continue to be told about the gold mine located on this property. And, a log cabin still stands where a couple raised a family of nine, one of which is still living.

Although there is currently much to see and do, Sunny Slopes is in the beginning stages of fulfilling the dream of a young boy. He continues to work to develop more of the land for presentation to the public. As time goes on there will be even more to do and see. We hope that you will plan a visit to the farm again and again to see the dream unfold.
